Hello!

My name is Jan Puype. If you had told me that I would one day take people on walks and inspire them with stories ... I wouldn't have believed you. I’m so happy with the way things have turned out ... and apparently the Storywalk participants are too!

Essential steps along my path

After studying Communication Sciences, I started working (somewhat by chance) as a right-hand man to a party chairman. I saw and learned a lot in that experience. Three years later, I chose the path I had dreamed of since childhood: journalism

For six years, I was self-employed, producing a series of articles that I sold to De Tijd, De Standaard and De Morgen. During that time, I also wrote two books that became bestsellers (The elite of Belgium. Welcome to the club and The Knights of the West Flemish Table. Chronicle of successful entrepreneurship). Then, I worked for four years as an investigative journalist for the VRT programme Panorama and, together with my colleague, won the Dexia Press Award for the best journalistic work.

Nevertheless, I felt it was time for another direction. So, in 2010, I founded my own company: the speakers' bureau Read My Lips. Together with a small team, we represented the interests of more than 200 speakers and presenters. The agency did well, and increasingly I became a day-to-day manager.

Some people love this activity, but I personally could no longer express my creativity through it. Result: I ran into the proverbial wall ... knocked down by burnout. Still, all disadvantages have their advantages – and so, in 2019, I sold Read My Lips. I had a new idea but ... Covid put a stop to it for the time being.

The birth of Storywalker

So, I decided to wander all the paths in my neighbourhood (my wife is French-speaking, and we live in La Hulpe, Walloon Brabant, just across the language border) to discover the stories hidden behind castle walls, dive into the life stories of inspiring people, and, for the first time in my life, delve into the beautiful stories that nature offers us. And before I knew it, I was in a new adventure: Storywalker!

I’m able to combine multiple aspects of myself in this new chapter. I’m curious and I love figuring out the stories I tell. I love creating the walks – where do I tell what? what do I tell? what not? – and I’m very sociable and love to connect with the participants. Oh yes: I also love humour and cannot resist the occasional joke during the walks (even if it’s sometimes rather lame). And finally, I love walking because, after all, it’s the most natural form of movement. It gives you time to really look at what you see along the way. And the cadence of walking gives you a chance to relax and re-energise.

Put on your walking shoes

So, do you want to do something you may never have done before? Do you want more than just walking fun? Want to discover our country like you've never done before? Possibly meet new people while also having a golden moment for yourself?

I'm your man! The concept of these beautiful walks: I give you a relaxing and inspiring moment, in which I tell stories that inspire, make you dream, make you stop and reflect ... but always captivate you. So, put on your walking shoes, discover wonderful places, immerse yourself in fascinating stories, and give yourself (and others) a beautiful gift. My walks take place in Brussels, Brabant and the Sonian Forest.
